An original Sanctuary base wrist communicator used in the production of the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.
Wrist communicator's like these were first seen on-screen in the 2006 story 'The Impossible Planet', then again in 'The Satan Pit', all starring David Tennant as the Doctor.
This particular communicator was made for the story "The Satan Pit".
Originally they were seen worn on the right wrist in 'The Impossible Planet' but after problems on set they had to reverse the design to allow the communicator to fit the left wrist instead.
These communicator's were used throughout both story's and worn by the crew apon the Sanctuary base, the doctor can also be seen wearing one of these communicator's as well.
The communicator was made by the props department, and on the inside is inscribed "C-1" in black pen.
Made from resin it has strips of foam attached around the edges to protect the actors wrist, it also has a strong magnetic clip to keep it firmly in place.
Measuring at approximately 4.5in (longest point to longest point) x 2in wide, it remains in a good production used condition with additional wear from use.
"The Satan Pit" is the ninth episode of the second series of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was first broadcast on 10 June 2006. It is the second part of a two-part story. The first part, "The Impossible Planet", was broadcast on 3 June.
The episode is set on Krop Tor, a planet orbiting a black hole. In the episode, the alien time traveller the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) climbs down a deep pit in which the Beast (Gabriel Woolf) is kept prisoner.
