An original prop, used in the production of the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who.

This prop was used by actor Sarah Sutton who played ''Nyssa'' and was seen on-screen in the 1981 story "The Keeper of Traken", PT3 starring Tom Baker as the Doctor.  Nyssa is seen using this box to conceal the Iron bonder weapon inside, while trying to gain access to her imprisoned father.

It is comprised of a box, covered with deep purple/blue velvet, with metal fittings, and on top, a large resin crystal that gives an appearance of a jewel, along with a green faux stone at the front.

It remains in good production used condition with additional wear from use.  A small piece of the green faux stone at the front is missing, also one of the hinges at the back has become unattached due to a missing pin, so care should be taken when opening the box.

Dimensions: 9.5" x 7.5" x 3.5"

It was acquired from the Peter Logan collection; Peter joined the Visual BBC’s Effects Dept in July 1967 where he worked on many episodes as a design assistant making props for this department.

The Keeper of Traken is the sixth serial of the 18th season of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was first broadcast in four weekly parts on BBC1 from 31 January to 21 February 1981.

In the serial, the alien time traveler the Master (Geoffrey Beevers) seeks a power on the planet Traken known as the Source which he wishes to use to restore his life.

The end of the serial introduces Anthony Ainley as the Master. The serial is also the debut of Sarah Sutton as companion-to-be Nyssa.
