An original young Iris Murdoch's (Kate Winslet) red two-piece dress worn in the production of Richard Eyre’s 2001 biopic Iris.
This dress appears near the beginning of the film when the young Iris and John attend a student party before going back to his flat.
The dress comes in two parts: a top with a plunging V-neck and a midi-length skirt with red organza overlay. The two pieces hook together through a series of metal attachments around the waist. Both are done up at the back with metal zips. Also comes with a petticoat and red pashmina. As the dress was made especially for Winslet in the role it does not have any labeling indicating size, but both sections do have labels with ‘Kate Winslet’ handwritten on them.
It remains in good production used condition with additional wear from use.
Iris is a 2001 British-American biographical drama film that tells the story of Irish-born British novelist Dame Iris Murdoch and her relationship with her husband John Bayley, who wrote the book on which the film was based. The film contrasts the start of their relationship when Murdoch (Kate Winslet) was an outgoing, dominant individual as compared to her timid and scholarly partner Bayley (Hugh Bonneville), and their later life when Murdoch (Judi Dench) was suffering from Alzheimer's disease and tended to by a frustrated Bayley (Jim Broadbent) in their North Oxford home in Charlbury Road.
Kate Winslet was nominated as 'Best Supporting Actress at the 74th Academy Awards® for her role as the young Iris Murdoch.
