This is an original treasure coin created by Weta Workshop for Peter Jackson’s acclaimed fantasy epic The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013). Coins of this design can be seen within the immense treasure hoard guarded by the dragon Smaug inside the halls of the Lonely Mountain.
The coin is made from lightweight aluminum and finished with a copper and brass plating to replicate the lustrous appearance of gold. One side features an engraving of a Dwarf, reflecting the craftsmanship and design sensibilities of Tolkien’s world. Measuring approximately 1.75 inches in diameter, the piece remains in good production-used condition, showing only light wear consistent with use on set.
